How did you come up with the name Rico’s Acai?
My brother Matthew and I were born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the “Rico Brothers” was a nickname for us when we came to North Carolina to study at Johnson & Wales. This is where the inspiration for our name came from.

Where did the influence for fruit bowls come from?
Acai bowls have always been popular in the surfing communities such as Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and California. We thought why not give it a try in Charlotte since no one was offering them at the time.

What are the benefits of acai?
Acai is a superfruit that has tons of healthy benefits from helping to relieve joint pain, weight loss, and so much more!

How do you keep your bowls as fresh as possible?
We only use fresh-cut fruit daily. We only buy the freshest produce we can find year-round which means sometimes we need to add seasonal fruits such as pomegranate and mango when other more common berries are not available.

What is one fun fact?
The Frog, or Coqui, on the Rico’s logo is a unique frog indigenous to Puerto Rico.
